Inspired by Chinese bamboo steamer baskets and traditional lattice patterns, “Woven” proposes a scalable, stackable, modular furniture system with several components acting as storage, seating, table and sculpture. Ironically, none of the elements are literally woven, however each unit intertwines and works together conceptually with the others in harmony to create a flowing, adaptable living system. The types of units vary in shape, function and colour - and the circular connections allow the user to pivot, bend and curve their assembly however they choose, creating a more personalized and active experience in shaping one's own space.
Woven was originally displayed at the Interior Design Show Toronto 2024 where it won the People's Choice Award for the Prototype section. Since then it has been featured in the artist collective 'Cultural Harmonix' which aims to promote ethnic diversity in Toronto's design industry. Future prototypes for this project are in design stages for the rest of 2024.
